Currently, the Department of Medical Microbiology does not offer an undergraduate degree programme in Microbiology. Rather, the Department offers training in Medical Microbiology to medical students as part of the MB ChB degree programme of the University of Ghana Medical School. The Medical Microbiology course taught by the Department to medical students covers basic and foundational concepts in microbiology as well as pathogenic mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of infections of various microbes including bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. The Department of Medical Microbiology provides a critical linkage between the basic and clinical sciences in the medical training programme of the University of Ghana.
